around "alsia' metro shop there are lots of shops on the rue d'alsia between the metro shop and rue des plantes and then between metro porte d'orlans and denfert. this is for clothes, shoes.
galleries lafayettes at montparnasse or st lazare are big and group many brands.
bhv also has a fair selection, it's just across from hotel de ville.
for cheap shops there are CandA and HandM. at montparnasse and chatelet. and for ultra cheap there is tati. for very expensive, there is 'bon march' in the 6th. les halles is a huge central mall with tons of shops but i dislike the atmosphere. it all depends on what you want and what price range you're looking at.
