Am going in a week and i want to know what places i should avoid.
plz and thank you.!
You should avoid the suburbs because some of them can be dangerous.
You should avoid anyplace with big signs that say "English Spoken" or that advertises in any way that it caters to tourists.
People who walk up to you in the street and inquire if you're American or English tend to be up to no good.
The big glitzy show places like the Moulin Rouge, Lido and Crazy Horse and tourists traps which are wickedly expensive.
Any of the strip clubs found along the rue St. Denis and in the area of Pigalle should be avoided at all costs. They are clip joints and you will not enjoy the experience.
The Bois de Boulogne and to a lesser extent the Bois de Vincennes aren't great places to be strolling around at night.

I want to move to France one day. What should I do?
I love France, everything about it. Althugh I've never been there. I'm 16 years old, and I would like to move there one day. How should I go about it? I live in Canada, I am fluent in French. My father was born in France, and my grandfather lives there. So I was wondering, since I already have family there, could I get my father to like give me dual citizenship since he's French? And If I can, should he go about it before I turn 18? Cuz I have asked him to do this for me for a while, but he says it's a lengthy process and that it's difficult since there is no French embassy in our city. I'm turning 17 soon, and I'm afraid it'll be too late. I'm not sure if he's even started.
Apart from the whole citizenship thing, what is France like? I'm biracial, so will I face a lot of racism? What are jobs like there? I would like to know everything.
Thanks a lot to whoever answers this.
To have dual citizenship your father (if he was French) should have had you registered at your birth at the French embassy. And you would have had to choose which to keep at 18 anyway. As it is you cannot have it just like that, once you are 18 you can ask for French citizenship but you will have to go through a long process and live quite a few years in France too. For more info why don't you contact the French embassy? They will have up to date information.

OMFG! I
If your wondering what I'm excited about is I'm going on holiday ABROAD!!!
I'm so excited because I have never been on holidayy before!! && I'm 14 :O because my dad has been in the army all my life until a few months ago he quit and got a new job ! So he said we can go on holiday! But I'm not allowed to go to a really hot place because I'm really ill and on a lot of medicines that makes it easier for me to get skin cancer :(
Hope you all have a brilliant year and stay happy and healthy!
The Northern Coast is beautiful. The beaches are very nice to walk on. On a short note, they have this kind of apple cider there, although it has a small amount of alcohol that might interfere with your medication, it is the best beverage I've ever tasted. The national cemeteries of the United States of America at Omaha Beach brought tears to my ears as I looked at all of those who had sacrificed their lives to liberate Western nations and Europe from tyranny and evil. Aside from that, one can look at the World War II bunkers and other cemeteries although, don't expect to find any french ones...you won't find it to be hot in the summer I should not think, so maybe that'll be your first point of call since the ferry, of course, lands there first. Hope you have a good time and the best wishes on your journey. Bon Voyage!

My BF is going to paris for a week .... what should I ask him to get for me ?
what should I ask him to get for me ??? Pls help ... I have no idea about parissssssssss
Herpes??
Just kidding. In all seriousness, there isn't much in Paris that you cannot find in the U.S. What Paris does have is shops and food and museums that you cannot find in the U.S.
My GF asked for lacy lingerie type stuff and some custom made perfume from a perfume shop. Both were good picks.
Why don't you ask him to take or send you some photographs of scenes in Paris that he is seeing with his thoughts or comments. If he's not that creative suggest un Parfum de France - French perfume. There are stores in Paris that sell hundreds of scents and there are professionals that can help him create a personalized scent for you or for you to smell on him.
Hi mini,
As far as paris is concerned, i don't have much idea too. but one thing i can suggest u that plze ask for him himself return with great enjoyment and pleasure. Bcoz u know material things can be bought anywhere in the world. Think for him and wish him good luck to be returned with ecstacy..
thank u
Chocolates.. It can't be confiscated like colognes. Although pictures are good. Anyone can take a picture. But chocolates melt in your mouth and then he can tell you a story about getting the chocolates
This my opinion though
Perfume--they do not adhere to American restrictions on perfume and thus, their perfume smells much nicer...

Law of driving in France?
I am going to France soon, i am only 18 and i've only been driving a few months. I am taking my car on the channel tunnel but.. Is there a law that you have to be over 21 and driving for at least 3 years before you can drive abroad?
Best to check with your insurance company to make sure you have cover to drive in France at18.
If there is a problem with your age, they will tell you.
That should be all fine but just make sure you take a reflective yellow jacket with you becasue it is the law that you have to have one for the driver and all your passengers in the car. It is so if you break down, it is easy to see you on the roads/motorways.
No. Actually, the minimum age for driving in France is 18. Also, just to warn you, there are strict laws in France against drinking and driving. You shouldn't be doing it in the US, but it's much worse in France!
you will love it

How does the physical geography of France contribute to its uniquness?
France has the shape of an hexagon so looks perfectly harmonious.
Except for the northern boundary with Belgium it has natural frontiers: The Ardennes mountains North East. The river Rhine, the Jura mountains and Lake Lman in the East which separate it from Germany and Switzerland, the Alps South East which separate it from Italy; In the South the Mediterranean sea which bathes the Eastern part whilst in the South-West the Pyrnes separate it from Spain. It has seas all down its western shores.
In view of the fact that it shares borders with seven countries ( Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Andorra, and Spain) it is centrally placed which helps its trade. It is well irrigated so that canals have been built between rivers enabling transport by barges. It has a temperate climate and such a variety of landscapes that it is a desirable place to visit for holidays of every kind at any time of the year.Despite the fact that it appears small compared to an American state there is plenty of open space. It offers seaside for beach holidays, mountains for skiing in the winter or walking and climbing in the summer, volcanic spas for medical cures, rural retreats and forests for relaxation etc...
It lends itself to a varied and diversified agriculture, from beet or wheat to flowers and exotic fruit. Its coastlines are such that it has a thriving fishing industry, and its shorelines enable trade with near by or more distant countries by ship.

French speakers plz help!?
im doing a book report, and i have no idea what the title means.
its:
le gteau gobe-chagrin
Le gteau refers to a cake. Gobe is derived from gober, which means to swallow, be it the real action or figuratively speaking. Chagrin is the word for sorrow or grief.
Putting them together, in literal sense, "the cake that swallows sorrow", meaning, it's a cake that takes away sorrow and sadness. If you read the book, you would have known that the grandmother of the main character (Marilyne) in the book made this cake to help her cope with her sadness, this giving clue to the meaning of the title of this book too.

Cheapest time to travel Paris?
I'm planning to visit Paris this year. I don't have too much money so I'd like to know when it's the perfect season for traveling there? Thanks!
Well, you've asked two different questions. The cheapest time is in January and February. The perfect season is in either the late Spring or the early Fall.
Since you specify "this year" then you should consider going in late October or November if finances are the primary consideration.

Am I getting charged?
Heres the deal. A friend of mine in France has a u.s phone because hes vacationing, hes been messaging my phone and Ive been replying. I have a u.s phone and unlimited text messaging. he has a different cell phone provider then I do. Am i being charged for our messages?
You didn't say where you are, so I assume the situation is, you're still in US while your friend is on holiday in France and brought his US phone with him to use while he is on roaming. Is that right?
If so, if your provider normally allows unlimited text messaging to any US phone, you shouldn't be charged for the messages. Your friend, on the other hand, not only have to pay to send the messages, he also have to pay for roaming charges too.
yes you are. and even if you have unlimited messaging you are still being charged. when i was in mexico people were texting me and i texted back and one friend said it was like 40$ for texting me

Paris metro ticket confusion?
Despite reading lot of FAQs I am still confused on what to take (travel pass/carnet etc). I am staying in Paris for 4 days. Day 1, I intend to roam around in Paris within zones 1-3. Day 2 and Day 3 I am planning to go to Disneyland from my hotel in Paris. Both these days, my usage will be just to go to disneyland (which is zone 5) and come back. Day 4 I intend to go to Louvre and then return back. What is better in this case? Shall I go for travel pass Zone 1-3 for 5 days and purchase RER ticket seperately for Disneyland? Or shall I buy a carnet for day 2and day 3? Is 10 ticket carnet available for Zone 5? Please advise
I am not sure where in zone 3 (which is outside Paris proper) you would be traveling on your first day. If you actually are planning on going into zone 3 then buy the one day Paris Viste pass which covers zones 1-3. Otherwise buy a Mobilis (a one day pass) for zones 1-2.
On day 2 & 3 just buy single tickets to go to Disneyland or, if you are going with a companion or family, you may wish to buy one or more carnets.
Carnets are available for zones 1-5 and have ten single tickets which can be used at any time. If you are traveling alone then for two days travel to and from Disney you need a total of four tickets. Buying 10 would therefore make no sense.
On day 4 just buy single tickets.
don't go...much simpler

What is the drinking age in Paris? is this different in Disneyland?
Any info you can give me would help ......!
The legal minimum age to purchase wine or beer is 16. Distilled alcoholic beverages requires you to be 18 before you can purchase them.
Please note that there is NO LEGAL MINIMUM AGE TO DRINK. The law only specifies when you can BUY alcohol. Unlike many countries, there is no equivalent in France to the type of law usually called something like "minor in possession."
I take it that you are American. Here in Europe drinking alcohol is not the big deal that it is in some states of the USA. In France kids can drink wine in a restaurant with their parents. BUYING alcohol is a bigger deal. You have to be over 18 to purchase.

What are some nice places to shop in Paris France?
I'm 14 years old. Male. I already know about Printempts and some other malls but i'll like to know if anybody could give me some more details. plz and thank you.!
what do you want to buy?
around "alsia' metro shop there are lots of shops on the rue d'alsia between the metro shop and rue des plantes and then between metro porte d'orlans and denfert. this is for clothes, shoes.
galleries lafayettes at montparnasse or st lazare are big and group many brands.
bhv also has a fair selection, it's just across from hotel de ville.
for cheap shops there are CandA and HandM. at montparnasse and chatelet. and for ultra cheap there is tati. for very expensive, there is 'bon march' in the 6th. les halles is a huge central mall with tons of shops but i dislike the atmosphere. it all depends on what you want and what price range you're looking at.

What do French think about Hermes, Chanel, Lanvin, Dior, etc...?
all these amazing French fashion labels?
I'm french, and to be honest, most of the middle class don't give a ******* **** about those fashion labels. But...I know the son of Hermes, random fact.
Most women like to look at haute couture fashion. But for the majority of French women, as with women in other countries, this type of fashion is completely out of reach financially. It's something we all dream about but know we'll never have the money to buy.
Kind of like the Americans think of Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, etc.

can you plz tell me what the title means, and what it's about?
thanks <3
It means "The cake that swallows sorrow".
The book is written by the Canadian author Maryse Dubuc for the children's market and can be bought for around eight dollars from any bookseller website in Canada.
It is about a grand-mother who tells her grand-daughter how to overcome life's difficulties and sorrows and gives her a "secret recipe" to do so.
You have already been answered many times with the right answer.

Why Is Toulouse (French City) Famous?
Because :
it is the fourth biggest french city in terms of population ( about 400 000 inhabitants, 1 300 000 in the metropolitan area ).
It is the headquarter of Airbus and a center of the aerospatial industry.
Lots of students (mote than 100 000).
Historically many Spanish republicans settled in Toulouse during the civil war .
The AZF factory based in Toulouse exploded on september 21, 2001. Toulouse is also sadly famous in France for this drama.
The rugby union team , the Stade Toulousain , is very famous in France and Europe because it is one of the best rugby teams in Europe.
etc
It's The Pink Town. It's the colour of the houses.
And it's the town of the Cassoulet !!!!

October at Disneyland Paris?
I am planning to go to DLP in October - I won't be going there the week of the English school holidays though - will the parks be fairly quiet? Will stay on site too so any thoughts on this also gratefully accepted.
I have been during the October holidays 2 years running. The parks are fairly quiet compared to other times of the year, but busy enough for an exciting atmosphere. Take advantage of your magical hours, usually 2 hours in the morning before the park opens, make your way to the back of the park and work forward to miss the crowds when the park opens. Book your restaurant where you wish to eat to avoid queues in the evening. There is a macdonands in the disney village. Be prepared for the weather to be variable. Which hotel are you at? Try and take a walk to the parks from the hotel past the lake, it is really quite mesmerising. have fun!!! plan your day.
disney land is always packed!
people from all countries go there so it will most likely be packed!

Paris at Easter -Any tips or recommendations?
Anyone been to Paris at Easter? We get there early on Easter Sunday and leave the following Tuesday evening. I'm trying to work out an itinerary that lets us see the sights but doesn't leave us exhausted if possible. We are having a romantic break to celebrate my birthday and leaving the kids at home for the first time in years.
Our hotel is the Hotel du Bois near the Arc De Triomphe - has anyone stayed there? Any tips or recommendations would be great, so thank you in advance.
Be careful here, a lot of the Museums close on Monday, for example, Musee D'Orsay. Look at
paris.org to check opening times.
Take the tube to Ilse de Cite and wander along the banks of the Seine. Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre are walking distance as is Notre Dame. It will be difficult to do them all justice in a day though.
Again, take a tube to Montmatre, and spend the morning wandering around the streets here. Rue Lepic is full of wonderful little shops and cafes. Les Deux Moulins cafe of Amelie fame is on this road, but looking a little shabby now. Gradually wander up to Sacre Coeur. This is my favourite place in Paris. The views are wonderful.
Galleries La Fayette is grand department store with a fabulous glass domed roof. Go up to the very top floor and go out onto the roof, again, wonderful views, for free!! Pick up a map in your hotel, there is usually a voucher on it that gives you a discount if you buy anything here.
Visit the Eifel Tower, although if you have seen the Paris vistas from Montmatre, you will not need to queue to go up.
Do not try to squeeze everything in, just start planing your next visit!

Where is the best place for hotels in Paris also what is the best way to get around?
It depends on what you mean by best. Certainly the most convenient is to stay in the center in arrondissements 4, 5 & 6.
Getting around in Paris is very easy as the city is very compact and has an excellent system of public transportation. The great majority of popular tourist sights are in a narrow band on either side of the Seine.
With good planning there are many days when a tourist will be able to walk most of the day as after seeing one popular sight you'll often find the next is only a few blocks away.
You can get a 1 day pass for the "Velib" rent-a-bike scheme for 1 Euro (pay by credit card). You pick up a bike at any one of the hundreds of racks throughout Paris, and leave it at another within half an hour. As many times as you like in a 24 hour period on the same 1 euro ticket, provided no one journey is more than half an hour.
Great way of seeing the city.
Htel de France Invalides
Htel Lenox Saint-Germain
Hotel Residence Foch
Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris
Hotel Luxembourg Parc
Hotel des Grands Hommes
Hotel Lancaster
Htel St.-Jacques
Splendid Etoile Hotel

The metro is awesome. It takes a little while to figure out how the map works exactly, but it can take you all over Paris in no time.

*I have eczema
* 10 lbs overweight, only shows in stomach
*too embaressed to wear a bathing suit, shorts, or dresses
Any advice?
So what, you won't be the only one on the beaches from high school, with or without eczema, with some stomach. France is host to most of northern Europe in summer, as well as worldwide tourists. We are used to beer bellies, hairy chests, rude tourists, spandexed fat rolls and screaming hordes of unruly teenages with trousers falling on their ankles showing ugly underwear. A teenage with a little stomach is nothing.
Go on a ******* diet. Get some Proactive. You'll be good to go. 4 more months till summer. start tomarow.

Le Centre Pompidou questions?
bonjour :D
hahah i have this french project due and i need some help finding information on the Centre Pompidou...i know nothing about it!!
i need:
1.) how big it is- length, width, & height.
2.) how much it cost to build this museum
and
3.) why is this monument important today?
thank you very much!
:)
Its length is 166m and its width is 60m. It is 7 stories tall.
The building cost 993 million Francs to build.
The Centre Pompidou houses the Bibliothque publique d'information, a vast public library, the Muse National d'Art Moderne, and IRCAM, a centre for music and acoustic research.
I hate it when people give this kind of an answer, but...
Google "Le Centre Pompidou". I'm willing to bet you
will very easily find an answer to every question you asked.

For those who live in New England area, which airport do you like best and why?
By that, I mean airports in the New England area.
I'm from CT so I use Bradley in Hartford or Logan in oston. Bradley is less crowded which makes going through security and making it to the flight a lot easier. Logan is nice too and right on the water.
Boston is nice because you can see a lot of aircraft movements but it can be pretty busy as well. Many people end up flying into Providence, Rhode Island. The airport looks nice and is less busy.

What airplane can be used in flight from Los Angeles to Jakarta ?
I getting a job in Jakarta, Indonesia
lots of them.
i usually use singapore airlines.
but you can use cathay, eva air, etc
Check out Garuda Indonesia. They should have a flight between Los Angeles and Jakarta. There may be a technical stop somewhere in between though. Most probable aircraft used is the Boeing 747.
Many airlines goto Indonesia. Look on expedia.com, cheapticktes.com, priceline.com etc. for different prices and times.

What airport do I fly in to get to Fort Benning, GA?
My son is graduating from the Army boot camp in Ft. Benning, GA. What airport would I fly into. Also are there hotels you would recommend. Thank you for any and all help.
The closest town is Columbus. There are commuter flights to Columbus from Atlanta, but they are expensive because there is no competition for the route.
It might be less expensive to fly into Atlanta and rent a car.

Aircraft Lavatory Light?
When the plane lav door is closed why does an additional light comes on?
Ha ha, actually I have also thought about this. Here's my personal opinion:
It makes no sense to have full light in the lavatory when it's unoccupied. Also, it is a reminder that the door is properly locked.
Hmm thats actually a really good question, but maybe the bathroom is too dark without the extra light, and it also makes me feel safer when there is more light, I don't know about you though but those bathrooms freak me out. :)
I think it is also telling you that the door is locked and the bathroom is ready for use!
Lol
So you can see better to aim

Will I receive multiple miles for multiple tickets on the same flight?
My family and I want to travel to Greece this summer. We have Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan. I was wondering if I bought five plane tickets for the same flight (with one of Alaska's partners), would I receive 5 times the miles, or only the equivalent for one person?
Thanks!
Open accounts for everyone. Then everyone can get miles credited to their own account.
No, you can't have five times the miles credited to one person. Miles go to who flew, not who paid.

Can i bring sea salt on a jet blue plane?
i need sea salt to clean my three week old piercings and i'll be gone for about five days and i won't be able to get any sea salt while i'm away.
am i allowed to bring it on the plane in a ziplock bag?
I don't see a problem with bringing sea salt with you.
i dont see why not. but just to be sure, i guess you should show it to the security people and tell them what its for if youre worried about it

Do I need to check in extra early for international flights?
I'm flying out of Detroit on thursday evening and staying overnight in the minneapolis airport (a layover) and then flying to jamaica the next morning. Do I need to check in extra early in Detroit with my passport and everything? If so, how much earlier? This is being compared to an average in country flight.
I have traveled international a lot over the past few years , I try to get to the airport 2 hours early for domestic and 3 hours if it is a international flight . You need to remember that if a few people a head of you in line have problems it can turn into a long wait to get to the gate or if you are one of the unlucky person who gets stoped at random at a check point that can make you need to run for your plane. It is a lot less stressful sitting at he gate for a hour or so.
Your flight from Detroit to Minneapolis is domestic. You will need photo identification to check in and get through security - a drivers license will do, but a passport is OK also. For that flight, it is recommended that you get to the airport at least two hours ahead of schedule. Detroit is a big airport, so you will need time.
Your flight from Minneapolis is international. You will be required to show your passport to check in - a drivers license won't do in that case. In addition, you will need to show a photo ID to get through security.
It is normally recommended that you get to the airport two to three hours ahead of the flight for international flights. My experience is that you usually don't need that much time. However, Minneapolis is also a very large airport, and if you have a remote gate, you should allow time for the walk.
You are considered an international passenger even though you're first flight is domestic. And yes check in early just because you never know what can come up with your ticket, or anything else that can be unexpected. Best to be early even if you end up waiting at the airport, I say 2-3 hrs. will be ok.
I've always heard that the rule of thumb is to check in an hour early for a domestic flight and 2 hours for international. I don't think your flight to Minneapolis counts as an international flight.
your first flight is domestic then the other one is international.... you showing your passport when you exit the airport:D
they saying to be at least 1 hour before flight... I always go 2 hours before (I rather wait there than be late:D)
Have great time

i used to work at dublin airport customer service. at least 90mins before a flight should be fine

What happens when a plane is about to crash?
i have to write a story about a plane crash and being stranded on an island.
do they tell you to jump out of the plane? or what?
The Captain says "Brace for Impact", and he will attempt to land the aircraft if possible. Ex: Hudson River landing
Tell you to jump out of the plane? Absolutely not.

What to do on a plane to Hawaii?
I am seeing my mom. She lives there. I live with my Dad and my brother. I know, its sad, right?
If you are flying from the mainland, the best thing to do is to sleep because you will be gaining time when you fly out there. Hawaii is a number of hours behind the mainland so when you arrive, it is most likely still daytime. Your body may think it is night already depending on where you are flying from. Therefore getting a nap on the plane will not only make the flight seem faster, you will arrive in Hawaii hopefully refreshed and ready to hit the beach once your aircraft touches down.
If you cannot sleep on the plane, the airline should show a movie. I doubt the aircraft flown on the Hawaii routes have the personal TV on the back of every seat. Therefore bring a book, magazine or an iPod as well. Some people bring a portable DVD player.
Play loadssss of games. Or sleep, or read a book. Or even bring your laptop and play downloaded games that no internet is required.
-Listen to you iPod
-Sleep
-Eat
-Read a book
-Watch the movie(s) provided on the plane
Read a book

listen to music on your Ipod

What does Mar-Bok mean?
In the manhwa President Dad, Ami's dog's name is Mar-Bok. Can someobody tell me what this name means? Is it a 'dog name' (IE Americans name their dogs stupid things like Rex and others...) I can tell it's not a common name for children. Are there other common traditional names Koreans give their dogs?
common dog name in korea is . Ba-Duk-E(its pretty old, they used to name their dog ba duk-e back in the day).
()[mar-bok]: the last 10-day period of the dog days (beginning around early August);the last phase of the dog days[midsummer heat]

A brief 4000 year history? An oxymoron.
Churchill said, and I paraphrase, I can talk on any subject unprepared for hours, but if you want me to do it in 5 minutes you have to give me a week to prepare.
Wikipedia... if you type Greece in and the first paragraph will explain a little about Greece... you can the re-word it and tweak it to suite your needs and add a little info. in...
this won't be cheating if you've re-worded it because you've still found the source
good luck
-wikipedia has so much you can read about the food and say what it is and give some examples, what country it is near... maybe talk about Cyrpus because Turkey invaded it. now there are two parts to cyprus and some of it even belongs to the U.K !

Can people with asperges drive?
hi i have asperges and i just wondering that when i grow up will i be able to drive?
oh yeah if you can pass the drivers test, which based on you asking this question shouldn't be a problem. my nephew has aspergers and i'm thrilled to hear from you. if its allright with you i would love to ask YOU a ton of questions. my nephew was recently diagnosed and we're just starting to learn about all this stuff. so, great to hear from you.
Some people with ausbergers can drive. they would have good impulse control, good anger management,an ability to concentrate for long periods, etc.
yes, definitely.
(of course i mean you can drive once you obtain and pass your driving test, that is!)

Is it normal for boys to listen to dima bilan a lot in russia?
i use to be a big fan of dima bilan a lot but i found out that he is the russian version of justin timberlake and i use to listen to him a lot too and people made fun of me for that but then that was when he was in NSYNC now listening to justin is normal but i think dima bilan is like the old justin which is why im wondering
Well I will try to explain why Russian guys think so. They dislike all pop music including Bilan.
The reason is that a fan associate himself with the idol. The mentality of Russian guys can not allow to have idol who sings pop music, because:
1. They use makeup like a girls or gays
2. Many of them use the phonogram because they do not have vocal abilities, they just do not know how to sing.
3. Many of them are sick stellar disease, believe that they are better than others, although in fact they are sh*t.
4. Also, most of their fans are crazy girls, guys can not be like them.
That is why many of Russian guys are fans of rock bands.
Is it normal for boys to listen to dima bilan a lot in russia?
To think that it is not normal could people that is crazy fans of other style of music or if they dislike pop music.
People that aren't fans and just listen music that they like think, probably, that is normal to listen all that you want.
Hmmm...do you love him?In Russia all hates him:D

What are some fun things to do/good places to stay in Boston?
My boyfriend and I are going for the first time for a few days. What are some fun things we could do there? I've heard there are some haunted tours.
Also, does anyone know a reasonable priced hotel to stay at that is close the action.
Thank you!
Must-see sights
Faneuil Hall Marketplace
The Freedom Trail (includes Boston Common and the USS Constitution)
Harvard Square (Cambridge)
Take a swan boat ride in the lagoon of Boston Public Garden (mid-April to mid-September)
The Big Dig has made driving in Boston ... well, difficult. Use the opportunity to explore this great city on foot.
Visit nearby Lexington on Patriots?Day (third Monday in April) and see Revolutionary War reenactments.

The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages, Egyptian and Greek, using three scripts -hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek. The Rosetta Stone is written in three scripts because when it was written, there were three scripts being used in Egypt.
The first was hieroglyphic which was the script used for important or religious documents and detail of hieroglyphic and demotic script on the Rosetta Stone.
The second was demotic which was the common script of Egypt.
The third was Greek which was the language of the rulers of Egypt at that time.
The Rosetta Stone was written in all three scripts so that the priests, government officials and rulers of Egypt could read what it said.
The Rosetta Stone was carved in 196 B.C..
The Rosetta Stone was found in 1799.
The Rosetta Stone was found by French soldiers who were rebuilding a fort in Egypt.
The Rosetta Stone was found in a small village in the Delta called Rosetta -(Rashid).
It is called the Rosetta Stone because it was discovered in a town called Rosetta (Rashid).
The Rosetta Stone is a text written by a group of priests in Egypt to honour the Egyptian pharaoh. It lists all of the things that the pharaoh has done that are good for the priests and the people of Egypt.
Many people worked on deciphering hieroglyphs over several hundred years. However, the structure of the script was very difficult to work out.
After many years of studying the Rosetta Stone and other examples of ancient Egyptian writing, Jean-Franois Champollion deciphered hieroglyphs in 1822.
Champollion could read both Greek and coptic.
He was able to figure out what the seven demotic signs in coptic were. By looking at how these signs were used in coptic he was able to work out what they stood for. Then he began tracing these demotic signs back to hieroglyphic signs.
By working out what some hieroglyphs stood for, he could make educated guesses about what the other hieroglyphs stood for.
Well as far as I know, the Rosetta Stone was the discovery which helped archaeologists decipher the texts of the ancient Egyptians. So, I guess it was important in that it allowed us to translate previously unknown hieroglyphic writings. This has obviously been vital in understanding the ancient Egyptians culture
it was like a big black slab that had all the languages on it. now there's a bunch of really shitty language software named after it. It's just one of those things you learn but that you never need to know later in life ever.

Can you clarify this Filipino superstition?
Is it true that an only child is more likely to be an idiot savant?
And do I have to define to you what superstition means? You have no idea what you're talking about, do you?
Unlikely.
I have known many individuals(friends,classmates,lolo...) who are the only child in their family. And none of them is an idiot savant as far as I know. Being an only child, I'll take myself as an example. Nothing's extraordinary with my skills and most importantly I don't have any mental defects.
As what you've said, it's only a Filipino superstition.
Err...I've actually never heard of that superstition before, even in school. But I don't think so.
But I shall never know too, since none of my family members is an only child. My classmate is, but she's not an idiot savant, thank God. But I can name a few who are, but they're not an only child.
There's no such superstition in the Philippines. Savantism was never associated with birth order nor in not having any siblings. Likewise identification or labelling of savants are very recent hence it does not make sense to already have a superstition about it.
If there's one, it wouldn't be called superstition. An unproven allegation or belief would be a more appropriate term. And I haven't heard any such belief.
Yes, please clarify for this ignorant foreigner.
no there is no such superstition.... but there is an old wives' tale that if u have a child late in age... u indeed might have one... which by the way may have some scientific explanation behind it
Never heard of before. But they always say the only child is a spoiled one or a lonely one.
And do I have to define to you what superstition means? You have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

Can I be Top Contributor at Level 1?
Probably not. I don%26#039;t think so. I think you have to make Level 2 or 3.
you need more than 10% of your best answers percentage on any category EXCEPT Polls %26amp; Surveys (the badge is immune to that category and there is NO top contributors on that category). Like 40-50 best answers on one or more category in 30 days can get you there.
A few details more details of how to get the Top Contributor badge. you need to maintain 100-200 points a week (total combination of best answers and active contribution). you can get on Monday Morning if you are eligible to get it. it does not depend on the level, points or the Total best answers you have. once you have it, you need to remain active since the badge is NOT permanent, so you lose it or gain it either way. also, we don%26#039;t know the actual calculated amount to get the Top Contributor badge, only the Yamster knows the calculated amount.
edit- lol sorry i was answering 2 Top Contributor questions at the same time and forget to edit.
I wouldn%26#039;t let you on top even if you fixed that ridiculous haircut.
Not on Level 1. At least I haven%26#039;t seen any TC%26#039;s on Level 1
Ahahaha! You would still be stuck with 1 BA if u were not the lone answerer to my question. :D
what for?
you can%26#039;t even exchange it for cash.

Need a place to vacation close to Long Island NY?
I'm from Long Island. My boyfriend and I are looking to go away for a few days but we don't want to go very far.
Does anyone know any places in either upstate New York or any surrounding states that offer outdoor activities and reasonable hotel prices?
Atlantic City isn't too bad - for outdoor activities, you'd definitely have to wait until it's warmer than it's been recently since it's all on the beach.
The Poconos in upstate New York is kind of fun - I'm not sure if they still have snow, but there's camping for the warm months, and skiing for colder months. They have cabin rentals and a few reasonably priced "resorts." April or May would be a good time to go - it's sort of still considered the off season. I haven't been since February, but it's a good time, secluded if you want to be alone, but lots of social stuff available, as well.
You could also take a bus or train ride, or just drive, up to Massachusetts - visit either Boston or to Cape cod. I've done it with my friends a few times, it can be fun. Boston's still a city, but much smaller and quieter than New York, so it can offer a good place to just get away for a few days (but not to live - I lived for about a year during my freshman year in college and it was horrible, lol) - it's only a four hour drive, so you can do it in a weekend. They have lots of outdoor stuff, museums, nice restaurants, and its not too expensive. Cape Cod reminds me of Long Island, to be honest, a big strip of mostly beaches, hiking, etc.
Hope this helps!

People who live in Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley!?
I wanted to know when my letter would arrive at Riverside,CA.
I sent it today in the morning at like 7am.
I live in Sherman Oaks,CA so when will the letter get there. Around what time..?
Thanks!
it will get there tomorrow or Friday
It will be there in a couple of days. It will arrive when the mail carrier delivers it. As we all know that depends on the mail carrier and varies from day to day.
First class mail should arrive tomorrow. However, it really depends on what time they deliver to the residence or business in Riverside.
It can get there the next day. Due to the internet, mail delivery gets to places pretty quick now. Of course, that's bad news for postal workers.
I think about 3 days, not sure what time probably whenever the mail arrives.
3 days r u serious!! it should be there tommarow if not the next day

Do you like the Saint Louis Arch?
Yes
Yeah. I've been there twice. It's nice. It seems my fate to only get up to the top on years when they are having a 100 year flood! lol

How much spending money for Amsterdam?
I already have my plane ticket, and my sister lives just 12 miles away, so I'll be staying with her. We'll probably be in Amsterdam a few times, maybe 3 days or so? We won't be smoking or going to the red light district. I'll just need money for shopping, traveling expenses, and when we eat out.
I'll be there for a week by the way. I just want a ballpark. Im thinking about $800?
That's approx ?593 for 3 days you should be fine as long as you keep your shopping in check and if go out for your meals paying for yourself.
When there I keep a ?200 a day to shop, travel budget and do fine & return with money most times doing just what your going to do.
Have fun
hey invest in the "I AMsterdam" card it works for 72 hours. and you get free tram, bus, the best way to travel in amsterdam...
im not a spammer i know i went there this year
Why don't you use your credit card as much as you can and don't take much cash....800 is fine...you can always bring it home but with a credit card you will need much less.

Which parts of New Jersey or Connecticut could I live in where I can easily commute to Manhattan for work?
I live in Denton, TX, which is in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, & I hate it here, & I'm sick & tired of it. I'm thinking about moving this summer.
Anywhere along the Northeast Corridor train line is a quick, easy commute. Raritan Valley Line has nice places, and is an easy commute, as well. I live in Edison, NJ and It only takes about 35 mins to take the train From Metropark or Metuchen station (If it is an express train, it's faster and many trains are express between Metropark and Penn Station).
As per the answer above, check out all the stops on New Jersey Transit for the easiest ways to get to Manhattan via public transportation. For Westchester County and Connecticut, you can look at Metro North, or you can go to www.hopstop.com and click on New York City, New Jersey, or Metro North and find estimated travel times, routes, schedules, etc. from various locations in Northern New Jersey and anything south of New Haven, CT.
If I had to personally recommend where to live, it would be neither of these places - NJ is a bit far, as is CT, and the prices aren't much lower than if you were to live in Brooklyn or Queens. Look into areas of Brooklyn like Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Brighton Beach, Flatbush, and Midwood - all affordable, moreso than even some areas of NJ and CT, and closer. As for Queens, you are even closer to the more accessible areas of Manhattan (i.e., midtown and uptown are VERY close, in comparison to areas of Brooklyn being a good 40 minute ride to downtown Manhattan) and I would look into Long Island City, Astoria, Kew Gardens, Rego Park, and Forest Hills. LI City and Astoria are closer to Manhattan but more expensive as a result, though many young people and college students live here, but Forest Hills and the surrounding neighborhoods are really safe, inexpensive and fun.
for NJ, check out www.njtransit.com. That is where all of the train and bus stops are located.

Who here likes to bring their own pillow(s) when going on a vacation?
I am going on my second cruise in a few weeks, and I was thinking of bringing my two pillows from my place. I dislike that it will be extra baggage for me to carry. However, if it's worth it, I'm all for it.
Anyhow, I was just curious to know if anyone else packs their personal pillows with them when they travel, and what their thoughts were.
Thanks for reading.
i bring my own. i put them in those bags that you sick the air out of. then you can just pack them and they take up no room...
I used to do that...took my pillow to Paris and to Germany...as I got older I got tired of carrying extra stuff, so the pillow went, but I still bring my soft blanket...it's a throw really, so not so big, but it still comes with me.
If you are having a good time you will be so tired that you will not notice the difference.
And I thought the Kitchen sink was the ultimate take with you..
You sound American. I am making a mental note not to go there, the pillows must be dreadful
LOL I have never been that attached to my pillow, but I brought along my baby blanket for like 30 years before I broke myself of it. It's all shredded up anyway.
Unless I'm flying, I take mine.

If i want to keep my money stable not for investment and make money can i buy swiss franc?
Invest in Unit Trust now. Your best option is to invest your funds with a good and reputable fund manager. Choose one with a good track record.
Talking about stability, there isn't any. We need to move funds between asset classes in tandem with market conditions. So its better to trust your hard earned money with a professional. How to choose?
Track record of safety, capital protection, long and short term retunds and one who is always outperforming the benchmark

Does anyone have an email address for EMS International shipping in China?
I'm in the US and can only find a phone number on their web page. I have a shipping issue that I need to have them address but really not finding a way to contact them. -Thanks!
When I need some email addresses of various EMS offices worldwide that I could not find on the web, I ask this lady from Singapore. She's the Customer Service Manager of Singapore EMS and she's very helpful in searching email addresses that are often not posted on the websites. Just ask her nicely, she'll be very helpful.
You may write her an email, and ask if they could help provide the email address of China EMS sinems@singpost.com (Singapore Post). Her name is Mdm. Chan.

I have a question about Christ.?
Most weterners are Christians? What percentage of them were Christians? It is a wise decision that a chinese who has no ideas of christ will marry a chritian? Once, I had contact with a girl following christ. but what she said made me be pretty confused.
There is nothing wrong with a Chinese person dating a Christian. Do you ask her about her religion, or does she talk about it on her own?
Really, whether or not it%26#039;s a good idea depends on the two of you. You need to know more about her and consider some things about yourself:
-Is she willing to date a guy who is NOT Christian and refuses to become one?
-If she is NOT willing to date a guy who is not Christian, are you willing to convert to Christianity?
-If she IS willing to be with a non-Christian, do YOU mind being with a Christian? Do her beliefs bother you or can you accept her?
There are many issues that may come up, but it depends a lot on the two of you and your relationship. I don%26#039;t know how your conversations go, so I can%26#039;t say much more.
Unfortunately not all westerners are Christians. Maybe you are willing to be a Christian??

Is the NorthLake area of Atlanta safe?
we're planning on visiting attractions downtown and stone mountain. this area seems to be right in the middle.
is it safe?
Safe and busy. You'll be by Northlake mall and there are a lot of shopping plazas.
Yes, it is safe but I don know why you want to stay there. It boring. It a giant suburb with a mall, Best Buy and Target. That about it.
You should stay somewhere around North Druid Hills instead. It safe and you go get 85 to go downtown and aren too far from Stone Mountain, either.

Where is the best area to be in for a tourist to experience the best of manila
Got to be Makati.
1. Go to Intramuros in the city of manila which is rich in heritage and history.
2. Go to Mall of Asia and eat in the seafood market (look for san miguel by the bay) and experience seafood grills and enjoy the Manila bay view.
3. Visit Luneta park.
Honestly, there's nothing to see in Manila. Manila is more of a business district rather than a tourist destination. I would suggest going to Ilocos (Ilocandia) which is very rich in culture or Baguio which is 7 hours travel from manila. Manila is just pollution and fast paced lifestyle.
You could go to different nightclubs/dance clubs/KTVs around Makati, Ortigas and Quezon City. The ones in Manila are oftentimes seedy, especially in the Ermita area where there are a lot of callgirls.
Manila obviously
i suggest you go to baguio or palawan..... its far from manila but you won't regret it
you mean red light districts ? ask the cops.

Temporary work in Greece?
This summer I would like to work in Greece for six weeks. Although I would love to work longer, I am going into service with the US Air Force on July 19, so I can only be there from mid may to the early part of June. Does anyone know where I could find some work under the table? I lived there last year, so I know a little bit of the language, and I still have a student visa, but it expires in April. Should I renew my student visa and will that increase my chances of getting work, or just let it expire and get the normal 3 month Schnegen visa? I am willing to do just about anything, so if you have ANY tips or leads, that would be great.
If you have the possibility to renew your student visa, do so. Having a student visa permits you to LEGALLY work part-time. This way at least you'll have work permission, so 1) you're much more likely to be hired and 2) if the police swing by and do a document check, you'll have documents, and you can just lie and say you work part-time - it'd be virtually impossible for the police to prove otherwise.
As you are probably aware - since you mention working under the table - on the regular 3-month (90 days, actually) deal, you aren't allowed to legally work. And since you lived here before, I'm sure you understand how it's becoming virtually impossible to find illegal work here thanks to the ever increasing police checks.
Even with papers, it'll be somewhat difficult (though certainly not impossible) to find someone willing to hire you for such a short period. I suppose you could just lie to them, telling them you'll work the whole season then just bail on them when you need to leave. Personally I couldn't do that, I'd feel too guilty, but to each his own.
So, as for a lead, I don't have any, sorry. However, there was an American girl who posted a question here a month or so ago, and she stated that she had worked illegally here last summer. She didn't say where she worked exactly, but if you're able to find her question in the resolved questions section (assuming it wasn't deleted) you could contact her and maybe she could give you some ideas.
girl go to greece!
its AMAZING!
I plan to travel by car from Tijuana to Guadalajara.?
Does anyone know the Roads or a safe route to take to get there? Please help.
That trip is 2,238 kilometers (1390 miles); a total of 23 hours driving time and 1,543 pesos ($103) in tolls.
Take Hwy. 2 east until it connects to Hwy. 15 at Santa Ana. Then follow Hwy 15 south through:
Hermosillo
Guaymas
Ciudad Obregon
Navojoa
Los Mochis
Culiacan
Mazatlan
Tepic
Guadalajara
It's safer with somebody else in the car to help read signs and watch for speed bumps.
Yes,
The way the person before me answered is correct. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE SOMEONE ELSE FOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AS WELL.
Also, don't forget to have the right currency because in all toll booths they have a sign that saids, "NO DOLLARS."
